Chapter 22
Isabella
âWe have to figure this out,â I said to Roman, grabbing his hand and leading him up the steps toward Kyloâs packhouse.
From his intense, lingering scent on the sidewalk, he had to be here, and we couldnât wait much longer to hear from Raj. I needed to do my own investigating.
âThis isnât the way to do it,â Roman said, tightening his fingers around mine.
âDo you have another suggestion?â I stared up at Kyloâs door, my stomach in knots. When Roman didnât answer me, I lifted my fist and knocked on the door. âIâm sorry, Roman, but this needs to be handled as quickly as possible. We donât have another way right now. When we do, we willââ
The door swung open, and Kylo stood in front of us with his hair disheveled.
I gave him a small smile and released Romanâs hand, stepping closer to him. âKylo,â I said, letting my wolf purr slightlyâvery slightly so it wouldnât come off as suspicious. âCan we come in? I think we all have some things we need to talk about.â
When he glanced from me to Roman, his gaze hardened. I grabbed his hand in an attempt to convince him that this was for the best.
And thankfully, he looked back at me and smiled. âAnything for you.â
Opening the door wider, he stepped back and let us walk into his home. It was weird, being here again, and I was ⦠uncomfortable, to say the least. Honestly, I didnât know if being here was a bad idea or not. All I knew was that I hated freaking waiting.
Once we sat on the white leather couches in the living room, I cleared my throat. âI wanted to apologize. I didnât mean to snap at you earlier and tell you that I was going to reject you. My wolf is ready to be marked, but I need a bit more time.â I leaned closer to him and grabbed his hand. âI hope you understand that itâs not you.â
Kylo let out a long sigh through his mouth. âItâs my fault. I shouldnât have pushed it on you. I canât control myself any longer. Iâve waited so long for you, princess. I donât want to wait another moment, but I will, if thatâs what you need.â
A moment passed in complete silence, neither Roman nor I knowing what to say next. We hadnât really come over here with much of a plan other than to gain Kyloâs trust again and figure out what the hell was going on. But gaining his trust could mean so many things.
âDid you get a chance to look in that file I gave you?â Kylo asked.
Pretending that it hadnât affected me, I shook my head. âNot yet. I didnât get any sleep last night, so I took a nap today. And, uh, the Moon Goddess visited me in my dream actually. I wanted to come and tell you.â
Sitting up taller, Kylo looked livelier at the mention of the Moon Goddess. âShe did?â
I nodded. âAt least, the ghost of her or something.
